Northern Development initiative

Football British Columbia (Football BC) is pleased to announce the launch of a new minor football initiative in Prince George and Northern British Columbia. This new program is being introduced to stabilize and hopefully expand minor football in Prince George. The Northern Development Initiative (NDI) is a participation program being delivered under the direct governance of Football BC and being locally overseen by Coach Mike Rositano.

What is the Norther Development Initiative (NDI)
The NDI is a Football BC participation program and being delivered under our mandate to grow the sport of football in communities throughout British Columbia. The program will initially launch with zero cost the player and have the singular goal of getting the players training and scrimmaging as soon as possible. The team/league structure will be developed as soon as we evaluate the level of interest in this program.

Program Costs
Football BC will be able to cover some of the initial operating costs for program delivery through grants/sponsorships. However, players will be required to pay a registration fee for formal programs. Any player cost will be kept as low as possible, and players will be eligible to apply for Kidsport funding as this program is being delivered by Football BC.

Next Steps
Football BC needs to gain insights into the needs/preferences of minor football players in Prince George. Collecting this information will help us establish our team /program structure. Importantly, the program is open to female and male athletes.

STEP 3: Information Meeting- Via Zoom
We anticipate holding an information meeting on the evening of June 2nd to provide parents/players an opportunity to ask questions about the new program. The meeting will be delivered via Zoom (Subject to local logistics, we also hope to provide an option for an in-person attendance ).

STEP 4: Formal Program/Team Structure Developed (June 10th, 2026)
Teams and training groups will be developed based on the level of interest expressed by the local football community.

STEP 5: Registration Opens (on or before June 13th, 2026)
Formal programs will be announced, and registration will open through the Football BC Teamlinkt platform.

Football BC anticipates that the program will expand to provide development support in communities across northern British Columbia. The goal is to incubate a new club or support the existing clubs in each community. In doing so, we hope to create a Northern Football Conference that provides an opportunity for teams from across the north to compete in meaning league play and tournaments. In addition, we wish to provide a direct pathway to participation in the Provincial Championships (Tackle and Flag).
